Negev
If you fancy escaping away from it all to a one camel town, then Mitzpe Ramon may just be what you are looking for!
A blip along the highway from Tel Aviv in the North to Eilat in the South, Mitzpe Ramon is a taste of Israel at it's quirkiest.
This Gateway to the Negev allows you to explore the Canyons and Craters of Israel's southern desert.
The Ramon Crater on the edge of town is a spectacular sight reminiscent of the Grand Canyon (though on a much smaller scale) - here you can trek or mountain bike through true wilderness and follow the routes of ancient peoples who once traversed this land.
Also on the way is Sde Boker - the burial place of the founding Father of israel - David Ben Gurion as well as the biblical Zin Valley wilderness.
There are several small enterprises in the desert allowing you to horse ride or trek the Negev.
You can stopover in Mitzpe Ramon en route to Eilat or do a circular tour from Tel Aviv and return to Jerusalem.
Our Opinion
One of the closest 'getaway from it all' places..the Negev allows you to forget about modern life for a while. If you can splash the cash..treat yourself to a night at the Beresheet Hotel which has an infinity pool overlooking the Crater and a balcony where you can see the Night Sky.
